The Australian Government Business Registration Service combines a number of key government business and tax registration forms in one place.

We have forms for new businesses, existing businesses returning to apply for tax registrations or businesses who simply need Digital ID(opens in new window). See below for more details:

New business

Use the New business form if you need a new Australian Business Number (ABN). You can apply here for your ABN together with any of the following registrations:

• Business name*
• Goods and Services Tax (GST)
• Australian company
• Pay as You Go (PAYG) withholding
• Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)
• Luxury Car Tax (LCT)
• Fuel Tax Credits (FTC)
• Wine Equalisation Tax (WET)

*You can also apply for business name on its own if you:

• already have an ABN
• already have an ABN reference number
• apply as a joint venture.

Apply for tax registrations

Use the Apply for tax registrations form if you already have an ABN, but need to apply for one or more tax registration.

You can use your Digital ID(opens in new window) to apply for GST, PAYG withholding, FBT, LCT, FTC and WET.

Can I register Norfolk Island businesses here?

Yes. Norfolk Island businesses can use the New business form to apply for the following business registrations:

• ABN
• Business name
• Australian company
• PAYG withholding
• FBT

Norfolk Island businesses do not need to register for GST, LCT, FTC or WET.

Can I update my details or apply for renewals here?

Not at the moment. To update or renew your registrations you'll need to refer to the correspondence you receive confirming your registration.

• update or renew your business name(opens in new window) on the ASIC website
• update your tax details(opens in new window) for your ABN, GST, PAYG, TFN, FBT, LCT, FTC, WET registrations on the ATO website.

Can I apply here for state licences or permits?

No. You'll still need to find and apply for your business licences and permits on the Australian Business Licence & Information Service (ABLIS)(opens in new window) website.

You can register these types of companies here:

• Proprietary limited companies (also known as private companies) - the most common company structure used by small businesses
• Public companies limited by shares or guarantee
• Public companies with no liability
• Special purpose companies (not for profit, home unit/body corporate, superannuation trustee)

To register a private or public company that's unlimited (where the liability of shareholders is unlimited), you need to apply:

• by contacting the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC)(opens in new window), or
• through a business service provider.

You can resume unfinished applications, track the status of applications and search for specific applications through your application summary.

To access your application summary, you need to select the type of application form you have started or submitted:

New business application

If you've started or submitted an application for a new business registration such as a new ABN or business name, resume your application or track its progress by clicking on the first option.

If you already have an ABN and have started or submitted an application for additional taxes, continue your application or view its status by clicking on the second option.

Use this form if you already have an ABN, but need to apply for one or more tax registrations.

You can use your Digital ID(opens in new window) (attached to your ABN) to apply for:

• Goods and Services Tax (GST)
• Pay as You Go (PAYG) withholding
• Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)
• Luxury Car Tax (LCT)
• Fuel Tax Credits (FTC)
• Wine Equalisation Tax (WET).

Use this form if you need to register one of these company types:

• Proprietary limited company (also known as a private company) - the most common company structure used by small businesses
